Director of Finance/Controller

Ottawa University is searching for a Director of Finance/Controller to work out of our residential campus in Ottawa, Kansas. This position reports to the Vice President for Administration and Chief Financial Officer.
The Director of Finance/Controller is responsible for coordinating and providing leadership for the University's accounting and financial services functions including: financial accounting & reporting, financial compliance, student accounts receivables, grants accounting, asset accounting, accounts payable, and foundation accounting. This position is responsible for implementing and maintaining a system of internal controls that will ensure that the University assets are adequately safeguarded, and that all financial reporting is prepared in accordance with all applicable rules and regulations.
The Director will demonstrate in-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and applicable governmental accounting standards; develop, administer and maintain accounting policies to ensure fiscal integrity of the University.
The Director will coordinate with University Advancement to account for designated funds and charitable gifts consistent with donor expectations; ensure that all gift tax reporting is accurate and timely; maintain accurate and timely reporting of all gifts in accordance with all applicable accounting standards.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree and CPA or CMA required: MBA or equivalent preferred.
Work Experience: 10 or more years in accounting and business management positions. Higher Education experience preferred.
Required Skills and Abilities: Experience in accounting systems, financial management, regulatory compliance activities and information systems; proven oral and written communications skills; proven leadership skills working in collaborative organizations.
