Introducing Chamber Blue of Kansas

A large group association health insurance plan offered through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas

The Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce is proud that we are partnering with over 44 other Chambers in Kansas to bring Chamber Blue of Kansas health insurance to our members. This Blue Cross Blue Shield large group policy helps small, medium, and even larger businesses lower their health care premiums and, at the same time, offer a variety of robust plans. Regardless of whether your business currently offers health insurance benefits or not, Chamber Blue could be right for you.

As of 2023, this plan is already helping over 200 businesses with 2700 different policies throughout the state. That is great “buying power” to help keep costs lower and, most importantly, keep costs steady year to year. As an association health plan, Chamber Blue of Kansas is working with Kansas Chambers to provide organizations like yours access to health insurance savings associated with large group medical coverage.

How it works

  • Participate in the interest survey that takes place between July 1-August 18 (must participate to be eligible for enrollment)
  • You do not have to be a current Chamber member to get rate quotes, however, you must be a member of the Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce by enrollment to accept the insurance
  • Employer must have at least two (2) W2 employees to qualify
  • Limited liability companies could qualify based on tax classification – determination by BCBSKS
  • Employer to pay at least 25% of the lowest cost option plan offered
  • Employer must have 70% of eligible employees enroll in group health plan (employees working 30 hours+ per week less those who have group coverage elsewhere x 70%)

Timeline

2024 Chamber Blue Enrollment Changes

  • Renewal will be age banded (5-year age bands) based on average age of the group. The rates will be composite rated, the same as in 2023

  • Underwriting process – BCBSKS will review the risk of groups – if the risk of the group is within 10% of the risk of the association, they will be accepted, if the risk is higher, they will be denied
  • Groups with 10 or more employees will complete census
  • Groups with 9 or fewer employees will complete health profiles
